Bowen Island Municipality

Bowen Island Municipality was incorporated in December 1999 and is the first Island Municipality in the Province of British Columbia and the Islands Trust. Located 20 minutes by ferry from Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) Bowen Island is part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District and the Islands Trust. , December 2003, indicated the population of Bowen Island is 3244. Approximately 40% of the working force commutes daily into Vancouver and the Lower Mainland to work.
Bowen Island Municipality serves the Bowen Island residents and operates and maintains six water systems, a sewer system, the road network, an extensive greenway trail network, municipal parks, beaches, and three public docks. The Municipality provides a full recreation program, land use planning, building inspection, and bylaw enforcement services for Bowen Island residents. The 26-member Bowen Island Volunteer Fire Department comes under the jurisdiction of the Municipality.
